mythology meme:  [1/8] myths, legends, and stories
↳ ‘koit ja hämarik’ (‘dawn and dusk’)

Considered one of the most beautiful Estonian myths of popular origin, ‘Koit ja Hämarik’ is a fabricated myth by F. R. Faehlmann, first published in 1840. It has since become a beloved folk tale in Estonia.
Dusk is the female spirit responsible for extinguishing the light of the Sun when the night comes, and Dawn is her male counterpart responsible for re-lighting the Sun in the morning. Although they only met once a day so Dusk could hand over the Sun to Dawn, the two fell deeply in love. The Grandfather saw this and offered to let them marry, but the couple declined the offer and asked to remain unwed, because that way their love would remain forever bright and new. The Grandfather blessed their decision and the two only meet for a longer time during the four weeks around summer solstice, when the flowers bloom at their most beautiful and the nightingales sing most sweetly.

MYTHOLOGY MEME ~ [3/8] Legendary Creatures ~ Banshee

The banshee (from Irish: bean sí “woman of the sídhe” or “woman of the fairy mounds”) is a female spirit in Irish mythology, usually seen as an omen of death and a messenger from the Otherworld.

In legend, a banshee is a fairy woman who begins to wail if someone is about to die. In Scottish Gaelic mythology, she is known as the bean sìth or bean-nighe and is seen washing the blood stained clothes or armour of those who are about to die. (x)

This is what happens when you bleach your hair to much then dye it back natural. My hair is coming off while I’m combing it. Only on the top though. *sigh* Back to looking normal while I try and get my hair healthy again.

When I was 14 Athena contacted me, she's come up in my readings, my dreams since I was young. I've admired her a lot, but I'm so scared to pick a religion in general in odds of picking the wrong one and being punished. I believe in GOD and Jesus but I don't believe in the manipulation of the bible when it comes from another person. I guess I've had bad experiences on "right" and "wrong." Can you please give me some insight or just advice on people you know that worship deities?

I would direct you to the christopagan section but it gets complicated and a bit impossible with the Greek Pantheon.

I’m going to say something that may get alot of christian & christianwitches on here pissed. How I see it, is that God is one of the gods, just a selfish one. One that wants humans all to himself (ie: “You shall worship no other God but me”). What you could do is have him as your patron GOD, and have Athene as your patron GODDESS. Up to you though.

Wont work. God commands to he the top god. No equal or greater. You can are god as a godess but it is still the same deity.
My God is a very jealous and selfish God. But any Pantheon with a hierarchy will have your top God who has to be the top. And so its not just my God that is jealous and selfish. Some pantheons work with it. Just not the Greek.

I don’t appreciate hearing Yahweh described as ‘selfish,’ as if being a jealous lover makes one inherently careless about the needs of their beloved.

I could write you a lengthy novel on how selfless one must be to constantly forgive those who slight them, but it seems a waste of my time.

He is jealous. He is wrathful. He is not selfish.

He is all of the above. He is selfish in the want to be the only one..he is selfless to forgive the sins against him. We are made in his image and the ppositive and negative are seen in God as much as they are seen in us. He is not always selfish. He is not always selfless. But to say he isn’t selfish is to ignore those parts of him. It was my mistake to say that he is selfish with out stating his selflessness to balance it out.

Actually wait a minute, isn’t the quote “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me”? In which case, while that’s commonly interpreted as “I am the one and only, and I’m top dog anyway” I think it’s quite possible for it to mean “Other gods can be equal to or below me on worship, but don’t you go giving anyone else offerings/worship more frequently or anything.”
Since the Hellenic pantheon desires equality… That would work, right?

Their heirarchy insists that in worship they be high. But the Bible has often reiterated God’s need to be the alpha and omega. The one and only top dog.

I beg to differ.

I want my husband to have no other than me.

Am I selfish?

It depends on how he is seen. If a lover wants you exclusive then no it is not. But if I father tells his daughter to speak to no man but himself ..then yes.. I do not see God as a lover but as a father. His exclusive commandment can come across as selfish. Its all very hard to explain because we are trying to hold God to human standards. I do not stop loving.God because he says that he will not share. I am devoted to him. But in the eyes of others it can come across as such. In the Bible He has done selfish deeds and selfless ones . When I say God can be selfish its not just about the commandment. Its about how He has handled things…especially old testament. If your lover asks you to kill your child to show your devotion…you would not think highly in said lover. God is a wonderful loving God…but he can be negative as well.

You said Christianity doesn't work well with the Greek Pantheon. Does it work with other Pagan religions, like Celtic? Or does it depend on which deity?

It all depends on the Pantheon and if they have a.hierarchy. it also depends on if they are willing to be below another deity outside their Pantheon. I know some christopagans that work with Celtic.
